NSS College, Nemmara, owes its inception to the Nair Service Society (NSS), a revered social organization. The college's foundation stone was laid by the esteemed Padmabhushan Mannathu Padmanabhan (Late) on February 28, 1966. The college is affiliated to the University of Calicut and commenced its operations in 1967, starting with four pre-degree batches, each comprising 80 students. With the introduction of a shift system in 1979-80, the number of pre-degree batches increased to six.
The college underwent significant transformations in subsequent years. In 1971-72, it was upgraded to offer Bachelor's programs in B.Com, BSc Mathematics, BSc Chemistry, and BA History. Subsequently, the institution continued to expand its academic offerings, introducing programs like BSc Physics (1979-80), BA Economics (1980-81), MSc Mathematics (1982-83), BSc Botany (1981-82), BSc Zoology (1982-83), M.Com (1984-85), and BA English (1995-96). Furthermore, the college introduced innovative courses such as BBA and BSc Instrumentation in the academic years 1998-99 and 1999-2000, respectively. In 2013-14, MSc Chemistry was added, followed by BA Malayalam in 2014-15.
Currently, the college offers 12 undergraduate (UG) courses and 3 postgraduate (PG) courses, consistently achieving commendable academic results.
